One death due to measles, 161 confirmed cases and 116 suspected cases have been reported in Kozhikode district so far this year.
Health department officials, at a review meeting on Wednesday (October 14, 2026), said the disease was spreading mainly among unvaccinated people. They said preventive measures would be strengthened and vaccination coverage expanded with the help of other government departments in the coming days.
They pointed out that measles vaccination was available at all government health centres. The two doses of the measles-rubella vaccine, administered between nine and 12 months and between 16 and 24 months, are an effective preventive measure. If children miss vaccination, they can receive the injections up to the age of five.
L.T. Saritha Kumari, District Medical Officer, presented a report at the meeting chaired by Assistant Collector Malavika G. Nair.
