New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice to Nestle India over claims made for its infant formula products Lactogen Pro 1 Powder and Nan Excella Pro Stage 1, citing potentially misleading health claims and non-compliant promotional content.

FSSAI flagged Nestle's claim that "5 HMOs helps support normal immune system", saying it could imply that the product was suitable for supporting immunity in relation to a specific physiological condition.

It also said the claim could violate regulations prohibiting claims relating to the prevention, alleviation or treatment of diseases or physiological conditions, unless specifically permitted.

Seeks JustificationThe regulator also questioned the claim that the product "contains whey protein, which is a part of milk protein that is easy to digest", saying scientific substantiation had been sought to support it.

Nestle India has been directed to explain why action should not be initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules and regulations framed under it.

Seperately, FSSAI has issued notice to Zydus Wellness regarding misleading claims and advertisement on "Complan" and sought scientific justification for the claim "grow taller faster.

Clinically proven 2X growth", "supports concentration and memory" and "pro immunity + 34 vital nutrients".

Flags Insta ReelIn another matter, FSSAI issued notices to influencer Ira Fathima, Abbott Healthcare, Nestle India, Nutricia International and Mead Johnson Nutrition India over the alleged promotion of infant milk substitutes through Instagram.

The regulator flagged an Instagram reel featuring a list of the "Top 5" infant formula products: Nan-Pro 1, Aptamil Premium 1, Similac Advance 1, Enfamil A+ Stage 1 and Dexolac 1.
